Doc Ervin, Superintendent

Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year!

We set many goals last year through the District’s Blueprint for Academic Success.  With your dedication and hard work, we were able to successfully implement many curricular, instructional, and operational systems and structures that are conducive to accelerating student performance and that help support the overall success of our students. As such, we will continue our focus on our classroom Teaching and Learning during the 2017-18 school year.

I truly believe that the Bakersfield City School District can be a high performing District where all students perform at their highest level of potential and excellence. Our overarching goal is to provide all children with a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education to close the educational achievement gap.  In order to do this, we must be aligned in our collective educational philosophy as follows:

  1. Our belief that all students can be successful.
  2. Every decision we make is in the best interest of kids.
  3. All stakeholders must be treated with integrity, dignity, and respect.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we will focus district-wide on the social and emotional aspects of learning.  Therefore, the first three days of school will be dedicated to building community and relationships with our students.  Every single one of you plays a key role in ensuring that our students’ needs are met.

Once again, thank you for all you do.  I wish you a successful and positive 2017-18 school year.
