Principal’s Message

This school year our teachers are collaborating in high performing Professional Learning Communities, implementing the Common Core Standards, and creating engaging learning tasks.  The staff is working hard to help students master their grade level targets both academically and socially.  With your partnership, it is amazing to watch your children grow.

Our students in grades 3rd through 5th, will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) Assessment May 1 through  May 19.   This assessment will replace the former California State Test (CST). The SBAC Field Test will provide an “academic check-up” for students, parents, and teachers by measuring real world skills such as critical thinking and problem solving.  This assessment is aligned to the Common Core State Standards in English Literacy and Mathematics and is designed to help prepare all students to graduate high school,   college, and  career- ready.   During the testing period, please make every effort to have them well rested and at school on time.  If your child is sick during the testing period, please call the school office immediately so your child can be scheduled for make-ups.

At Frank West, we have been teaching the 5 expectations:   Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Cooperative, and Be Ready to Learn.  A big Thank You to the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) team for preparing our teachers and students to follow the 5 expectations.  Please spend time discussing the PBIS 5 expectations and their importance.  This will prepare them to be academically and socially prepared for future success.

We would also like to thank all our special guest readers who shared their day with us to celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss; this made our children so happy.  A special thank you to all parents and staff that came to Family Reading and Movie Night. Thank you Ms. Rivas for making this happen.

One more big shout-out to our Booster Club for putting on a fantastic Book Fair. Also, a great big thank you to all our parent helpers and Ms. Rojas.  Without your help, our work at Frank West could not be done.

Remember parents, my door is always open!!

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs. Yvonne Lopez
