The purpose of this booklet and corresponding student pages is to help you prepare your students for the upcoming CELDT (California English Language Development Test).

These pages focus on the four domains of language: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Specifically, students will practice key language tasks such as Teacher Talk, Extended Listening Comprehension, 4-Picture Narrative, Choose and Give Reasons, Speech Functions, Reading Comprehension, Writing Sentences, and Short Composition.

Please administer these pages at least two weeks before your students are scheduled to take the CELDT examination. Complete 1 page a day during your regularly scheduled ELD block.

Each of these daily activities is designed to take approximately 5-7 minutes. As many students have not been exposed to these types of activities on a regular basis, you may have to provide additional modeling, prompting, and/or giving examples of correct oral and written responses. When possible, please give corrective feedback to students. As always, feel free to contact our department if you have any questions.

Thank you for all you do for your students!
