BCSD Celebrates Music in Our Schools Week

September 6, 2017 – BCSD students in grades 3-6 had the opportunity to enjoy music, singing and pirate skits during Music in Our Schools Week.  Each year, the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) department at BCSD visits schools with their music teachers and performs a variety of musical numbers showcasing several instruments including trombone, cello, clarinet, flute and many others.

Along with the entertaining performance, some students were invited up front to experience playing a percussion instrument.  They had the opportunity to play maracas, orchestra bells, tambourines, and cymbals in front of their teachers and classmates.  The presentation also included and educational skit with pirates, singing and posters with categorical information of the instruments on display.

The goal of the presentation is to introduce the students to the musical opportunities offered through VAPA, and to invite them to sign-up for the programs offered at their respective schools.  Through the programs offered by VAPA, BCSD has been nationally recognized by NAMM as a “Best Community for Music Education” for the fifth consecutive year.
