BCSD Schools Welcome New Kindergarten and Transitional Kinder Students
August 10, 2017 – Several BCSD elementary schools opened their doors to welcome new kindergarten and transitional kindergarten (TK) students and their parents as part of the district’s Kindergarten Bridging Week. In an effort to help the new students get a jump start in academics and get familiarized with the schools, they were able to preview the campus, playgrounds, and classrooms, and had a chance to interact with teachers and staff.
Teachers prepared and decorated their classrooms and planned several activities to help “bridge” the new kindergarten and TK students into the new school year. The Family And Community Engagement department also had Liaisons at some schools that offered orientation workshops for parents and backpacks filled with various items the students could take home.
The Kindergarten Bridging program was implemented this year by the State and Federal Programs Department of BCSD. The goal is to provide a positive introduction to school and begin the important foundational relationships between the school, students and parents.
