FACE Hosts Fourth Annual Family Resource Fair
May 1, 2017 – Hundreds of District Parents and Families attended the Fourth Annual “Now We’re Cooking” Family Resource Fair held on April 26th at Pioneer Drive Elementary School. The event was hosted by the Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) Family and Community Engagement (FACE) and Nutrition Services Departments with support from our community partner J&E Restaurant Supply. During the event, attendees visited our community partner booths such as the Bakersfield Police Department, Community Action Partnership of Kern, Kern Family Health Care, and the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation. Parents and families also participated in a watermelon eating contest and a Family Talent Show. In addition, some families prepared their favorite salsa recipe for the Salsa Contest.
“Now We’re Cooking” is a free monthly cooking class that engages parents and students in a program to help educate families on how to make long lasting, healthier, life style decisions. Recipes have been designed to help families experience a variety of nutritional and culturally diverse foods. The cooking interaction also helps families to strengthen communication skills, reinforce reading skills and demonstrate practical math applications through recipes. For more information about the program, please call 631-4763.
