BCSD Hosts 2017 Festival Concerts at Rabobank

May 25, 2017 – The Visual and Performing Arts Department (VAPA) of the Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) presented two very special student performances before capacity crowds at the Rabobank Convention Center and Arena over the last week.

The first of these concerts was the 61st Annual Junior High/Middle School Honor Concert.  It featured performances by the best young vocalists and orchestra instrumentalists from BCSD junior high and middle schools.  The audience was treated to stellar presentations from several groups, including string ensembles, choral groups and orchestras.

The second concert was the 43rd Annual Elementary Festival Concert featuring performances by the best young musicians from BCSD elementary schools.  The capacity crowd enjoyed presentations by the Blue Symphonic Honor Orchestra, Red Concert Honor Orchestra, Festival Chorus and a Flutophone Ensemble.

BCSD’s music program recently received national recognition as one of the 2017 Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) for the fifth consecutive year.
