Santa Visits Students at Rafer Johnson
December 23, 2016 – The students at Rafer Johnson School received an early visit from Santa Claus as he stopped by the campus on the last day of school before Winter Break. He brought a gift for each student plus cookies and hot cocoa.
The annual event is sponsored by The Bakersfield Rotary, and is a big hit with students and staff. The organization donated gift bags filled with several items including socks, stuffed animals, stockings and toys.
Krystal Gonzalez, a Behavior Management Specialist at Rafer Johnson said, “This is a very special event that the students look forward to each year. They work hard together so that they can participate.”
Bakersfield Rotary members Denise and Scott Haynes were present to distribute the gifts and read a Christmas story to the students. Denise said, “The Bakersfield Rotary has been sponsoring this event for over seven years. My husband and I enjoy coming down here and spending time with the students.” The couple played a significant role in the event beyond just handing out presents. Denise hand decorated each stocking included in the gift bags, and Scott wore a special red suit and greeted each student with a jolly “Ho! Ho! Ho!”
