Library Media Services Hosts Annual Book Exhibit

December 20, 2016 – Thousands of books from around the U.S. filled the Professional Development Center at the Education Center for the annual Book Exhibit.  Each year, publishers from around the country send books to the Bakersfield City School District for preview.  All library staff is invited to the event and select books that they believe would be a valuable addition to their respective library catalogs.  All books included in the exhibit are donated free of charge, but LCAP provides funds for BCSD libraries if additional copies of those books are requested.

The exhibit featured a guest presentation from Marley’s Mutts!, a local dog rescue which also offers unique educational programs including assemblies, class visits and reading initiatives.  Some of their programs utilize student and pet interaction to encourage literacy and promote responsible pet care.

Some of the vendors that participated in the Book Exhibit were Permabound, Nullmeyer and Associates, Mackin, Demco, Oliver and Andy, Scholastic, HMH, Capstone, Crabtree, Bearport and Enslow.  Each vendor provided free books, bookmarks, bags and other items in support of the event.
