BCSD Participates in Community Back to School Events
August 16, 2016 – The Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) was proud to partner with local community organizations during two back to school events this past week.
On August 12th, the Blessing Corner Ministries held their annual Back to School Fun Day at their location on Union Avenue. The event brings dozens of community organizations that share important information with families in our community. BCSD staff from School Health and Support Programs was on hand to provide health screenings for children and their families. Visitors to the BCSD booth also received information on Pre-K registration, as well as BCSD giveaways. More than 1,000 Bakersfield children walked away with new backpacks filled with school supplies provided by community sponsors.
BCSD also partnered with Assemblymember Rudy Salas for the Stuff the Bus school supply drive on August 13th at the Walgreens on Mt. Vernon Avenue. Dozens of community members arrived with backpacks and other school supplies and helped to fill the bus. Donations will be distributed to children of the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County which serves many BCSD students through their after school programs.
