BCSD Elementary Festival Concert Featured Best Young Musicians in Bakersfield

June 3, 2016 – The Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) presented the 42nd annual Elementary Festival Concert on May 23rd at the Rabobank Convention Center. This music festival featured the best young musicians in BCSD’s elementary schools. The Honor Orchestra, String Ensemble, Festival Chorus, and Flutophone Ensemble performed to a capacity crowd.

During the event, the BCSD music educators were presented awards by David Green, Vice President of the Kern County Music Educators Association (KCMEA). They are:

• Steve Engel, Academic Coach, Visual and Performing Arts Department- KCMEA Elementary Music Specialist Award.
• Catherine Johnson, Mt. Vernon Elementary School Magnet Music Teacher- KCMEA General Music Educator Award.
• Nick Olmos, Elementary Traveling Instrumental Music Teacher- KCMEA World Music Educator Award.
