BCSD Students Among Winners of Young Writers of Kern Essay Contest
May 19, 2016 – Congratulations to the following Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) students who have been selected as winners in the Young Writers of Kern Essay Contest:
Fatima Cortez, 8th Grader, Compton Junior High School;
Ethan Howard, 8th Grader, Chipman Junior High School; and
Isaac Mota, 7th Grader, Sierra Middle School.
Students wrote essays on the topic: How Does a Person Overcome Adversity?
The contest is sponsored by the Writers of Kern, an organization that provides a forum for published and aspiring writers to share ideas, hone their craft, and encourage one another to continue writing. Winners were presented with monetary awards and honored at an awards dinner on May 14th.
