BCSD Third Graders Treated to a Morning at the Symphony
February 9, 2016 – Hundreds of third graders from the Bakersfield City School District spent a morning at the symphony as part of the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra’s (BSO) Young People’s Concert series (YPC). The BSO performs three themed concerts each season which are specifically designed for young audiences and also meet scholastic standards set by the State of California. The February YPC, titled Musical Natures, used interpretations of Handel, Beethoven, and Stravinsky to paint the beauty and forces of nature. The concert was led by Guest Conductor, Petko Dimitroy, who took time to talk to students about music and the symphony.
Hosted at the Rabobank Theater, students and teachers from across Kern County have enjoyed the YPC for more than thirty years. The goal is to inspire young people to have a lifetime love for music. These concerts are a perfect way to entertain and educate students at the same time, making learning fun.
