BCSD Migrant Students Awarded in Speech and Debate Competition

January 30, 2016 – The sixth annual Local Migrant Education Speech and Debate Tournament for the Bakersfield City School District took place on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Students from grades fourth through eighth presented in both English and Spanish language competitions.

The objectives of the competition are:
• To acquaint students with the basics of research
• To develop skills in organizing materials
• To develop a better understanding of and appreciation for team participation
• To organize and deliver arguments to effectively address an audience through content and speaking skills
• To use oral language as a foundation for reading and writing development
