BCSD Hosts 30th Annual Math Bowl

March 3, 2016 – Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) elementary and middle school students put their math skills to the test during the 30th Annual BCSD Math Bowl held at Cato Middle School. Students competed as individuals or teams in categories such as The Thinker, which tests the student’s problem solving skills, and The Super Star, a written test of 50 standard-based multiple choice and constructed response questions. Participants prepared for months to qualify for this event.

Hilda Wright, Instructional Specialist states, “This event allows students to show their talents and skills around mathematics. Math is about reasoning, problem solving, and working together to make sense of the real world. The Math Bowl gives students the opportunity to engage and participate in a fun competition that promotes and advocates for mathematics.”

In addition to the competition, the District honored Bob Fulenwider, who founded the Math Bowl 30 years ago while serving as a teacher at Chipman Junior High School.
