20th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic

Recently, the BCSD Education Foundation hosted its 20th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic Luncheon at the Double Tree Hotel. Over 300 District colleagues, friends, and community members attended the event to bid on holiday gift baskets donated by local businesses, school sites and committed individuals. Arriving guests enjoyed singing by the McKinley Glee Club (pictured on front page) then, during the luncheon, the Owens Intermediate Bob Cat Performers sang for the guests. All proceeds from the silent auction, ticket sales and raffle drawing support teachers’ innovative classroom projects through a variety of grants offered by the Ed Foundation.

Commenting on the Teddy bear Picnic, BCSD Educational Foundation president, Don Vereen said, “It was gratifying to see so many community partners gather on behalf of children during this busy holiday season to become part of the Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser.”

Several generous community partners helped make this event possible though valuable sponsorships that help defray the cost of the day’s activities. This year’s sponsors included: Kern Schools Federal Credit Union, Lundgren Management, Ordiz Melby Architects, Inc., Sonitrol, Xit Solutions, Don Kinzel Construction, A2Z Technologies, Advanced Micro Resource, AltaOne Federal Credit Union, IBI Group Architecture, United Refrigeration, Hall Ambulance and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

It is always fulfilling to witness the numerous acts of kindness from the community in order that children may have a brighter future. No act is too small and no need is too great for our collective efforts in leveraging our resources to support student learning. We are grateful for the generosity of those who attended this year’s event, the children and teachers of BCSD will experience a more enriching academic school year because of their support.
