Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program

Bakersfield City School District runs a Pre-K through 8th grade program in partnership with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools on three different school sites located in Bakersfield. All preschool students are served at the Claude Richardson center, TK through 6th grade at Eissler Elementary, and 7th-8th grades at Chipman Middle School.
The Kern County Unified Deaf Program’s Mission is to provide a progressive and comprehensive education for all Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, Pre-K through 8th grade, in the Greater Kern County area. Together we provide services tailored to individual student needs, driven by California State Standards, and methodologies that are research-based. We strive to promote productive and independent citizenship in all of our students through a safe and nurturing learning environment. All teachers and staff work together to create opportunities for parent involvement and community engagement.
